Spain are the new FIFA World Cup Champions.
The Spanish National Team defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time, in the final match of the World Cup, held at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States.
Ferran Torres scored the lone goal in the 106th minute, in the second half of the extra time, after full time of 90 minutes had ended goalless.
It was a fitting end to the World Cup which began on June 11 with 48 teams, as the Spaniards won 7 of the 8 matches they played overall.
They scored 14 goals and conceded just one, to win their second World Cup title after winning in South Africa 2010.
Argentine Super star, Lionel Messi played for the entire 120 minutes, but could do little to save his side as he bowed out gracefully, even though there was the disappointment of not winning the World Cup back to back and for the second time for him.
The Argies scored 19 goals in all and conceded 8 and will have to wait another time to win their 4th World Cup title.
A total of 104 matches were played, 308 goals were scored while Kylian Mbappe of France emerged the Highest Goal Scorer with 10 goals and also become the Highest Goal Scorer in World Cup history with 22 goals so far.
USA, Canada and Mexico were the co-hosts and it was the first time 3 countries would host the World Cup.
