The Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji has reaffirmed her commitment to tackling cases of sexual harassment in tertiary institutions across the state, saying such cases must be treated with seriousness.
Dr. Oyebanji stated this in Ado-Ekiti while receiving the management team of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, in her office.
She noted that failure to punish perpetrators would only encourage the act to continue unchecked and commended the current FUOYE management for its efforts in reducing incidents of sexual harassment on campus.

The First Lady recalled that FUOYE had in the past been in the news for negative reasons bordering on sexual harassment, urging the university management to sustain efforts aimed at improving the institution’s image so that it would no longer be associated with bad news.
Dr. Oyebanji also promised to organize a gender summit and advocacy visits to tertiary institutions to educate students and lecturers on societal values and crimes.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, commended the Governor’s wife for her performance in various areas of development pointing out that the present administration had demonstrated quality leadership.

“We have seen what is happening in Ekiti and it has given us reason to thank the administration. The sustainable peace being enjoyed is by no means small,” he said.
Professor Ogunwole also lauded Dr. Oyebanji’s pet project, WAHO foundation which had given many girls and women assurance of protection, improved quality of life, and support for girl-child education.
He used the occasion to announce that the university’s 11th Convocation would come up in February next year, adding that the Senate of the Institution has approved the Governor’s Wife, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji as Convocation Lecturer.
