Heavy rainfall in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday 30th June, left many communities submerged, homes destroyed and hundreds of residents displaced.
The downpour, which began in the evening, overwhelmed drainage channels and riverbanks across the state capital.
Communities affected include Olorunsogo, Olorunda, Odo Ado, Adebayo, Basiri, Iworoko, and parts of Ajilosun.
Our correspondents in some of the areas said the flood also cut off major roads and bridges, disrupting movement within the city.
Most major roads were impassable for hours as vehicles broke down in deep water while many residents had to seek alternative places to sleep after the bridges linking their communities were washed away by the flood.
The residents have appealed to Governor Biodun Oyebanji to prioritize the construction of bridges across the state capital.
