The Awewe Dynasty of Ewu-Ekiti has rejected the hierarchical arrangement of Iwarafa Obinrin contained in a letter recently issued by the monarch of Ewu-Ekiti, describing the order as contrary to the history and tradition of the kingdom.
In the letter dated September 1, 2026, the monarch, His Royal Majesty Oba Bamidele Olatunji Adeniran Adetutu Ajayi, the Elewu of Ewu-Ekiti, reaffirmed what he described as the established positions of both male and female Iwarafa in Ewu-Ekiti.
However, in a statement made available to newsmen, the Awewe Dynasty protested the arrangement, particularly the placement of the Eyebaisa at number six on the list.
According to the dynasty, the Eyebiasa is traditionally the third-ranked position and should not have been placed sixth in the hierarchy.
The dynasty maintained that the order contained in the monarch’s letter does not reflect the historical account and traditional arrangement of the land, insisting that the established order should be respected.
The Awewe Dynasty is therefore calling on the monarch to review the arrangement and make the necessary amendments, saying this would help preserve the cordial relationship between the palace and the various traditional families and quarters in Ewu-Ekiti.
The dynasty also raised concerns over what it described as the alleged victimisation of the Eyebaisa, Cecilia Dada.
It alleged that the traditional ruler’s actions against Dada were connected to her refusal to comply with a directive allegedly issued by the monarch for people to support Senator Ayo Arise during the APC primary election, contrary to the position reportedly taken by the party’s leaders.
The dynasty argued that traditional institutions should not be used to settle political differences, stressing the need for fairness, respect for tradition and peaceful coexistence among the various quarters.
It consequently appealed to the monarch to reconsider the disputed ranking and address the concerns surrounding the Eyebaisa saying that correcting the situation would help prevent further misunderstanding and strengthen unity within Ewu-Ekiti.
