Stakeholders in Ekiti State have urged Nigerian youths to shun political violence, cyberbullying and other forms of digital misconduct, stressing that their future is greater than crime.
They gave the advice in Ado-Ekiti during a programme organised by the Ekiti State Police Command to mark the 2026 International Youth Day with the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Michael Falade, said the theme reflects a shared commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous society where every young person can achieve their full potential.
He noted that the national campaign for the year, “My Future Is Greater Than Political and Digital Thuggery,” is timely and must guide youths away from misinformation, criminality and violence that can jeopardise their future.
The CP described youths as critical partners in crime prevention and community safety. He therefore encouraged them to embrace education, entrepreneurship, innovation and sports as legitimate avenues for self-development.
CP Falade also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his support for youth-focused policing. He commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his administration’s commitment to youth development, peace and security in the state.
Also speaking, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Adesola Gold Adedayo, urged youths to use technology positively to better their lives rather than engaging in cybercrime and political thuggery.
In the same vein, the Director General of the Homeland Intelligence Agency, Ekiti State, Dr. Oladotun Adetunberu, cautioned youths to desist from hard drugs, cybercrime and political thuggery.
Dr Adetunberu charged them to remain focused in order to earn respect and secure a better future.
The three-day event featured a Youth Awareness Walkathon, Tree Planting Exercise, and the launch of the national campaign against political and digital thuggery.
