Wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi has advised the Federal Government to ban importation of foreign fabrics to enable local producers to thrive.
She gave the advice while speaking at the maiden annual get-together and inauguration of Executives of Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria, FADAN, Ekiti State Chapter held in Ado Ekiti.
Erelu Fayemi who is the National Matron of the Association said Nigeria is blessed with beautiful textiles which needed to be promoted to the global stage.
She admonished FADAN members to use their association to promote local fabrics by wearing it in all their events and promised that her office would acquire a space for the establishment of Ekiti Fashion Hub.
While speaking, the Ekiti State Patron of the Association, Dr. Mrs Abimbola Oni said the formation of FADAN in the state was born out of desire to bring together fashionistas who could give the vocation a facelift.
In her acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated coordinator of FADAN in Ekiti, Mrs Yetunde Aremu who spoke on behalf of other executive members gave an assurance that the leadership would ensure achieving the purpose of establishing the association in Ekiti State.
The ceremony which featured award presentation and fashion parade had in attendance Commissioners, Special Advisers to the Ekiti State Governor, National President of FADAN among others.
