Presidency denies budget padding claim, Senate to take position

The Presidency has denied claims that the 2024 budget was padded with Three Trillion Naira and did not favour the North.

The allegation was made by a Senator from Bauchi State, Abdul Ningi who claimed that the information was contained in the report of a consultant.

However, Special Adivser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga through a statement, said President Bola Tinubu forwarded an evenly distributed budget in which all the six geo-political zones were included.

He described the Senator’s claims as false, far-fetched and unbecoming of someone of his status.

Similarly, three Northern Senators , Steve Karimi (Kogi West), Titus Tartenger Zam (Benue Northwest) and Kaka Sheu (Bornu Central) also rejected Senator Ningi’s position, describing it as unfounded ,baseless and a figment of his imagination.

The three Senators warned those bent on creating an atmosphere of crisis in the National Assembly, to stop such.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Senate Appropriation Committee, Solomon Adeola said the Senate would take a position on the allegations during plenary on Tuesday, 12th March, 2024.
