Shun Fake News-NYSC DG Tells Corps Members

The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Mohammed Fadah, has charged the 2022 Batch ‘C’ stream 1 Corps members to entrench and promote the culture of working together in friendship, peace and harmony with other Nigerians.

Brigadier General Fadah stated this during the swearing-in cermomy of the 2022 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 Corps Members held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ise-Orun/Emure Ekiti State.

The DG, represented by the NYSC Ekiti State Coordinator, Mrs Mary Nenna Chikezie emphasised that the building block of Scheme is essentially the promotion of national unity and integration

He stressed that the scheme’s idea of deploying Corps members away from their state of origin is to offer them the opportunity for a broader understanding of the country.

Brigadier General Fadah reiterated the Scheme’s commitment to Corps members socio-economic growth, urging the corps members to take advantage of the Skills Acquisition Entrepreneurship Development ,SAED programme and utilise their service year judiciously, which he described as once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The DG, however, enjoined the corps members to familiarize with the provisions of the NYSC Act and Bye-laws, noting that it will guide their conduct during the service year.

Brig-Gen Fadah also implored the corps members to sustain the high level of discipline and enthusiasm while dissuading them from using the social media to spread fake news and misinformation.

He stated: “You are also enjoined to familiarize yourselves with the provisions of the NYSC Act and the NYSC Bye-Laws. I implore you to sustain the high level of discipline and enthusiasm by remaining compliant with the camp rules and regulations.”

One thousand, four hundred and two corps members deployed to Ekiti State were sworn in at the ceremony.

The event attracted dignitaries such as the Chief Judge of Ekiti State represented by Justice G.O Ajileye, Camp Director, Camp Commandant, Resident Officer, Heads of Collaborating Agencies and other Camp Officials.

The event also featured presentations from the cultural troupe who thrilled the audience.
