FG commences implementation of New National Teachers policy

The Federal Government has commenced implementation of the New National Teaching Policy that addresses career path, remuneration, professional teaching standards, qualification, deployment and management of teachers in the country.

The Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu stated this on Monday during a news briefing ahead of the 2022 World Teacher’s Day (WTD) and Presidential Teacher’s, schools excellence award in Abuja.

Mallam Adamu said the policy was to transform the teaching profession to ensure quality education for the development of the country.

The Minister represented by the Permanent Secretary Mr. David Adejo described this year’s theme “The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers” as timely in view of government efforts to reposition the teaching profession.

The Minister called on state ministries of education and local education secretariats to send nominations that would be selected to compete for Presidential Best School, Best Teacher and Best School Administrator in the Public, and Private Primary and secondary schools.

The National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT Comrade Audu Titus Amba appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for sustaining the President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Award which had given hope to teachers and promote the dignity of the teaching profession.

Comrade Amba represented by the FCT NUT Chairman Stephen Knabayi also commended President Buhari for signing into lawthe “Harmonized Retirement Age for Teachers in Nigeria which provides for retirement of teachers on attainment of 65 years or 40 years of pensionable service.
