Expert Decries Continuous Intervention of Court in Electoral Process

An Expert in Constitutional Law and Justice, Professor Sambo Abdulfatai says the continuous intervention of the Court in the nation’s Electoral process is harmful.

Speaking at an event in Ilorin, Kwara State, Professor Abdulfatai said even though the phenomenon has its advantages, there are risks that are also involved.

He listed some of the merits to include prevention of abuse of office, constitutional sanctity and stability in the nation’s democratic system.

However, Professor Abdulfatai said the disadvantages include but not limited to possibility of judicial error, bribery/inducement, burden on judiciary in terms of number of cases and then apathy on the part of the electorate who will not see the need to go out and vote since the court will most likely upturn the results.

He explained further that continuous intervention by the Court will encourage politicians to do whatever they like during elections, knowing they could easily bribe the judges.
