Cheques worth over three hundred million naira have been presented to three Technical Colleges in Ekiti State under the World Bank Assisted Innovation Development Project.
The project aimed at enhancing the capacity of the skills development system in the formal and informal sectors is being executed in six states including Abia, Benue, Edo, Ekiti, Gombe and Kano.
At the flag off of the project in Ado Ekiti, Governor kayode Fayemi said the grant would be used for the purchase of various technical instruments to equip students with various skills and innovations.
The Governor explained that his administration’s commitment and passion for technical education had increased students’ enrollment from two hundred and forty to about three thousand in the colleges across the state.
He lamented negative perception of the people about technical education, stressing that no nation coud develop without technological innovation which was evident in government strive to make the sector more functional.
Governor Fayemi gave assurance that government would continue to provide enabling environment for students to thrive in technical colleges to enable them to be self reliant.
Earlier, the state Chairman, Board for Technical and Vocational Education, Pastor Kayode Babade announced that Technical Colleges in ijero, Otun and Igbara odo benefitted from the projects which would further improve technical education in the state.
Also the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr Bimpe Aderiye urged stakeholders to always contribute their quota to technical education.
