Don’t give room for strike in tertiary institutions..NCSU tasks FG

Celebrates International Men’s Day

The Nigeria Civil Service Union on Friday celebrated this year’s  International Men’s Day where it  called on Federal Government not to give room for strike actions in whatever form in any tertiary institutions in Nigeria due to its consequences.

The General Secretary of the Union, Comrade Bomoi Mohammed lbraheem who stood in for the National President of the Union Comrade Chief Lawrence Uchechukwu Amaechi, warned that any strike action at this critical stage of this country would  spell doom for the survival of the country.

The International Men’s Day Celebration which was jointly sponsored by the Echo Nigeria International and Nigeria Civil Service Union was described as an event ‘borne out of desires to ensure that government agencies that are concerned with Gender issues are called to duty”

Comrade Bomoi Mohammed lbraheem said that this year International Men’s Day Celebration was not for jamboree rather for deeper thought and robust discussion; to ensure that every stakeholder  come out with workable policy decisions that would ensure that Men who constitutes 75% of workers in Nigeria were not discriminated against towards their better living conditions not only as Public Servants but also as critical stakeholders in human existence.

“The Union further stated that ” as a Trade Union movement, we will continue to engage in advocacy, intellectual discussion and agitations on issues that will better the wellbeing of workers and humanity” the General Secretary submitted

Earlier , in his opening remarks,  the Executive Director Echo Nigeria International Dr Life Alegbemi pointed out that,  the broader and ultimate aim of the event was to promote basic humanitarian values of boys and notable men  who are constantly contributing their quota in ensuring holistic growth and development of the society.

The Executive Director lamented that many boys today do not know what it means to be a man because they do not have man in their lives, most children of nowadays go to bed daily without saying good night to their parents; sadly again, even in homes where the father is present research had showed that average father spends less than 10 minutes a day,  one-on -one with their children , consequently, in our society , emotional and spiritual fatherlessness is becoming the norm” he submitted

Dr Alegbemi, suggested father child interaction in order to promote child physical wellbeing, perceptual ability and competency for relating with others, these children will demonstrate greater ability to take initiative and evidenced self control.

In a position paper of the Nigeria Civil Service Union presented by the Senior Deputy General Secretary Comrade Olasunkanmi Olubadejo, expressed the readiness of the Union to passionately advocate for better working conditions for both men and women Workers through international platform that will call the attention of relevant Government Agencies and international organizations to the plight of Nigerian Workers

The Nigeria Civil Service Union called on government at all levels to take issues affecting humanities very seriously such as economic downturn, threat to Educational policies as a result of perennial strike by ASUU, fuel scarcity alarming insecurity across length and breath of Nigeria and trial and error economic policies which have created economic woes on the people of all ages and sexes.

In his own remarks, the Chairman Federal Council of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, FCT,  Abuja Comrade Otunba Timothy Odebunmi promised that  Federal Council of the Union will be more involved in the year 2022 edition of International Men’s Day Celebration because of the sensitive roles expected of men to play at the home front.

Comrade Odebunmi said that, very unfortunate that some Men have compromised the spiritual and moral roles expected from them at home and society at large, the International Men’s Day Celebration will provoke many good issues that will impact positively on menfolk and society at large.

Given vote of thanks, the Head of Department,  Women Gender and Youth Comrade Gbenga Olowoyo appreciated the leadership of the Union and the Management of Echo Nigeria International for flaming up activities for the 2021 international Men’s Day Celebration which will attract further issues considered together as Gender based challenges moreso,  this year theme “Better relations Between Men and Women” is an attestation to the fact that  both sexes are not only symbolic but also symbiotic in their relationship in human existence.

Fifteen point resolutions that will be submitted to relevant government agencies and international organizations for further relevant policy direction that will help to reshape the perception and focus of policy formulators to better the society in policy directions.
