The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has suspended its eight month old strike.
The decision was taken at the end of its national executive council meeting NEC held at ASUU national secretariat in Abuja .
The University of Abuja chapter Chairman of ASUU, Professor Kasim Umar who confirmed the suspension to Radio Nigeria said its president Professor Emmanuel Osodeke will brief the press on the details of the suspension.
The ASUU NEC meeting which started last night lasted till the early hours of today.
The union’s meeting was said to have held to review development, especially the order of the Court of Appeal,which had ordered it to obey the earlier order of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, NICN,by suspending the industrial action before it appeal the judgement of the trial court.
The union embarked on the strike on February 14,2022, to press home its demands from the federal government.
Some of the demands of the union are funding for the revitalisation of public universities.Payment of earned academic allowances (EEA), reconstitution of the FGN/ASUU 2009 Renegotiation Committee, Adoption of UTAS to replace IPPIS, payment of withheld salaries and remittance of check-off dues among others.
