INFLATION, POVERTY “KILLING” NIGERIANS—-V-Pres. Shettima Admits

Nigeria’s Vice President, Alhaji Kashim Shettima says rising cost of living and poverty are seriously affecting Nigerians.Vice President Shettima, who stated this at an event in Abuja, said the poor masses who constitute the largest part of the population, are now angry with those in government and the elite, who form only a small portion of the society. The nation’s number two man was probably stating the obvious, following the removal of petroleum subsidy by the present administration and the unofficial devaluation of the Naira, the country’s currency. He called on political office holders at all levels to improve the quality of governance. The Vice President explained that creating jobs and embarking on people-oriented programmes and policies, would reduce, if not remove insecurity in the society.Alhaji Shettima noted that it is easy to blame bandits for many of the societal problems, but leaders should examine themselves and see where they have to improve, to bring back peace and security in the society. The Vice President said the poor suffers too much neglect in the contemporary African society, with a call on the elite and ruling class to encourage peace by identifying with them and doing the constitutional needful to better their condition. He called on Nigerians to have patience and support the present administration to reposition the country.
