Fifty households in Aba Erifun, Polytechnic road Ado-Ekiti have benefited from the free distribution of food items, including rice and provisions under a Non-Governmental Association “Joke Martins-Ojo food bank” in conjunction with Ado-Ekiti Central Lions Club International.
The beneficiaries who were majorly Elderly persons were selected anong Yoruba and Ebira indigenes living in Erifun Community.
Presenting the items to the benefiting households on behalf of Mrs Joke Martins-Ojo, popularly known as “Iyawo Jesu” a former member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Kehinde Odebunmi said the idea was to extend hands of fellowship to the needy, especially during the yuletide season.
“Many people are living in abject poverty and there is the need to give helping hands to them”.
Mr Odebunmi who is also the Service Activity Director of Ado-Ekiti Central Lions Club International noted that the items given to each household worth ten thousand naira.
He pointed out that the NGO was established to reach out to the less privileged in remembrance of the husband of the founder, late Martins Ojo, a native of Ikoro-Ekiti.
“Her husband, late Martins Ojo who is from Ikoro-Ekiti died about ten years ago and in a bid to always him, Mrs Joke Martins-Ojo decided to be assisting people who are in need”.
“Mrs Martins-Ojo have been empowering people in different states, I convinced her to extend the gesture to Residents of Ekiti who are also in need”.
Mr Odebunmi added that “Joke Martins-Ojo food bank” partnered Lions Club in view of its vision of service to humanity.
“As you know, Lions Club International has the mandate of reaching out to the downtrodden, hence our resolve to partner the NGO to achieve its vision” Mr Odebunmi said.
Two of the beneficiaries, Mrs Habibat Sulaiman and Mrs Bola Agboola appreciated “Joke Martins-Ojo food bank” and Ado-Ekiti Central Lions Club International for reaching out to them at a time like this.
“We are really happy and grateful to Joke Martins-Ojo food bank and Ado-Ekiti Central Lions Club International for the gift, we did not take it for granted”.
Mrs Sulaiman and Mrs Agboola prayed God to reward the two organisations abundantly and for that God should bless the work of their hands.
