Update: Nigeria wins 2021 Women AFROBASKET….

Nigeria’s national basketball team, D’Tigress have won the 2021 FIBA AFROBASKET WOMEN Championship.

D’Tigress beat their counterparts from Mali 70—59 in the final match played on Sunday night in Yaounde, Cameroun to lift the trophy for the third consecutive times.

Nigeria won the first quarter of the game 22–11, lost the second quarter 13–9, came back strong to win the third quarter 28–14 but lost the fourth quarter 21–11.

D’Tigress best performer for the night is Victoria Macaulay with fifteen points while Mariam Coulibally recorded thirteen points to emerge as the best Malian girl for the night.

D’Tigress captain, Adaora Elonu was voted as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament while Elonu and Ezinne Kalu made the team of the tournament.

With Sunday night’s victory, Nigeria became the second country after Senegal, to lift the giant trophy three consecutive times.

This is also D’Tigress’ fifth AFROBASKET title, having won it previously in 2003, 2005, 2017 and 2019.

D’Tigress have equally qualified for the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Australia.

In the the third place match of the 2021 Women AFROBASKET, host, Cameroun defeated Senegal 53–49.
