No fewer than four persons were on Saturday crushed to death by a trailer loaded with diesel in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Sources said the driver of the truck lost control at Oloko axis at Okorun Street killing four people including a mother and her little child.
The casualties were many because it’s a commercial area where some commercial motorcyclists(Okada riders) gathered. Sources disclosed that the truck was coming from Ogbagi Road when the driver lost control possibly as a result of brake failure.
The truck rammed into a stationary vehicle and in the process hit some Okada riders with their passengers.
Besides the four persons who died on the spot, several others sustained various degrees of injury.
Men of Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) in Ikare Akoko unit rushed to the scene of the accident and rescued the victims and evacuated remains of the casualties.
Those who sustained injuries were rushed to the Emergency Unit of the State Specialist Hospital, ikare-Akoko, while the remains of the casualties were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
Mr. olayinka Akande, Unit Commander, FRSC for Ikare-Akoko, who confirmed the accident, attributed it to brake failure.
He, therefore, urged motorists to always check the condition of their vehicles before hitting the road.
