In Ikere-Ekiti, over five hundred members of opposition parties have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
This is happening less than forty eight hours that the Ekiti State Election Petitions Tribunal upheld the election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his Deputy, Chief Monisade Afuye at the June eighteen governorship election.
The defectors which include stalwarts from ADC and SDP in Ikere Local Government said their actions were borne out of determination to join hands with the government of Mr Biodun Oyebanji and Chief Monisade Afuye to bring about meaningful changes and sure total victory for the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in the next year general election.
The leader of the defectors from Social Democratic Party and Legal Adviser to the the party, Mr Olatunbosun Ashana said he led thirty five members of the SDP in Ikere constituency two to work for the success of APC Candidates in next general elections.
Mr. Ashana explained that he defected from SDP to APC not because of the yesterday Tribunal judgement which upheld the election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his Deputy Chief Monisade Afuye but to move the state to an enviable heights instead of working against those at the helms of affairs.
” We came to support and enjoy dividends of democracy. I personally observed that the present administration has what is takes to move Ekiti State forward and we need to join hands to achieve his lofty dreams of bringing succour and economic prosperity to the people ” said Mr Ashana.
The Chairman of ADC, Ikere Local Government, Mr Lanre Adekogba said that the open door policy and six points agenda of Governor Biodun Oyebanji made him take the bold step to defect from ADC to APC.
Mr Adekogba who pointed out that Governor Oyebanji had demonstrated that he had the interest of bringing succour to the poor and economic development, noted that the Governor had also extended hands of fellowship to those in opposition parties, partnered traditional rulers and visited well meaning Ekiti indigenes on the need to build the state economy, ensure a secured environment and attract investors.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to change the current economic and security problems which he said had almost consumed many Nigerians.
” Tinubu brought about meaningful changes when he was Governor of Lagos State, he solved transport problem, he is an economic developer, so if he can emerge the President of Nigeria he would surely solve the current challenges”
While receiving the defectors, the Ekiti State Deputy Governor Chief Monisade Afuye expressed joy that some of the defectors who were formerly members of the All Progressives Congress APC in Ikere now come back to the party and promised to give them equal opportunity.
Represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Victor Adeniyi, Chief Afuye charged the defectors to work for the success of APC Candidates in the next general election and assured them that the present administration would do everything possible to put smile on the faces of youths, farmers, traders and all Ekiti State residents .
She said that the six points agenda of Governor Biodun Oyebanji were carefully programmed to put Ekiti on a pedestal of meaningful growth, economic advancement and bring prosperity to the people of the state.
” Ekiti is our Jerusalem, please join hands to make the state great, I am appealing to those who are still in opposition parties to please join the APC or find a way to support the present administration. We will do everything possible to make the people happy, our plans, programmes and policies are tailored towards rapid development” said the Deputy Governor.
