Tragedy struck in Oke Ila are of Ado Ekiti this afternoon as the lifeless body of a middle-aged woman was retrieved from a canal by operatives of the Ekiti State Fire Service.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the woman, whose identity remains unknown, earlier jumped into the canal voluntarily and she was initially rescued by passersby but later jumped into the canal.
Unfortunately, by the time the fire brigade operatives were able to retrieve her from the water, she was already dead.
Another eye witness who spoke with Radio Nigeria reporter said the woman was one of the mentally unstable patients that are been treated at a trado medical home close to the river
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many left wondering what could have driven the woman to take such drastic action ¹
