Ekiti State Ministry of Health and Human Services has warned individuals and organisations fond of embarking on public health outreaches without the approval of the State Government.
In a statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Akinjide Akinleye, on behalf of the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani described the practice as unacceptable and condemnable.
The warning followed the decision of an organisation to conduct free eye surgeries and medical consultations for the people of the state without seeking formal approval from health authorities in the State.
While warning against the practice, Mr. Akinleye stated that henceforth, the state government would take disciplinary actions against those promoting such illegal medical/health outreaches.
He also urged the general public to be wary of such outreaches because of the risks associated with their services.
The Permanent Secretary reiterated the commitment of the State Government to the wellness of Ekiti residents through various interventions and admonished the people to refrain from patronising quacks and unauthorized health facilities.
Mr. Akinleye reemphasized the need for Private Healthcare Providers that wish to render ad hoc Healthcare Services to obtain clearance from the Ministry of Health and Human Services, failure of which would attract sanctions.
