Three Edo lawmakers reject arbitrary suspension

There was pandemonium in the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday, 6th May 2024 when the Speaker, Mr Blessing Agbebaku, unilaterally announced the suspension of three lawmakers over alleged juju scare and plan to remove Principal Officers of the House.

Announcing the suspension, Mr Agbebaku accused Donald Okogbe–PDP, Bright Iyamu–PDP and Adeh Isibor–APC of plans to cause chaos in the Assembly and remove its leadership.

The Speaker added that some persons allegedly took some native doctors into the Assembly premises on the 1st of May, 2024, to perform some rituals.

However, the accused lawmakers reacted by telling the Speaker that he did not have the right to suspend any member without approval by the whole House.

The three lawmakers told Mr Agbebaku that he should call for votes by the members to determine their fate.

Amid the rowdy session and tension generated by the development, the Speaker quickly adjourned the sitting of the House.
