Steer Clear of Local Governments’ Allocations, Supreme Court Orders Governors …Grants Financial Autonomy to Councils

The Supreme Court declared on Thursday that it is unconstitutional for state governors to hold funds allocated to local government administrations.

In its lead judgment read by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the apex court said the 774 local government councils in the country should manage their funds themselves

The Apex court therefore ordered all state governors to henceforth steer clear of the funds meant for the 774 local government areas of the country.
