SSA to Tinubu on Students Engagement Visits Gov Oyebanji

The recently appointed Senior Special Assistant on Students Engagement, to President Bola Tinubu, Sunday Asefon, has expressed his determination to make a positive impact on the lives of Nigerian students.Asefon, who is from Ekiti State, stated this when he visited the State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, on Tuesday December 12, 2023 to present his appointment letter and seek his support.The former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), appreciated the governor and the Ekiti youths for their support and vowed to use his new position to advance the cause of Nigerian students and bring dividends of democracy to their table.He also revealed his plans to address the issues that affect the academic progress and prosperity of students, such as increment in fees, which the president had placed an embargo on. Asefon said the President prioritized students’ welfare, which was why he introduced a student loan scheme to ease youths’ access to good education.He explained that the loan scheme, which would commence in January 2024, would be in three categories: school fees, accommodation, and upkeep, saying that the loan will be easy to access and repay, as the government had made arrangements for job opportunities for students who applied for loans.The SSA to the president also disclosed that GNC buses would be given to Students Union chapters across the country to ease their movement, adding that he will partner relevant bodies and relate effectively between students and the government to create a conducive environment for both parties.Governor Biodun Oyebanji congratulated Mr Asefon for his appointment and thanked President Tinubu for recognizing an indigene of Ekiti state for such a vital position. He said the president has been showing lots of commitment to the Ekiti cause as many indegenes of the state have been engaged at the federal level as he also expressed hope for more appointments for Ekiti people.The state Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Gold Adedayo, who accompanied Mr Asefon to the governor’s office, also commended President Tinubu for choosing the former NANS president for the position of SSA on Students Engagement. Mr Adedayo equally thanked Governor Oyebanji for his support to the youth, particularly the appointment of Asefon, and expressed confidence that the SSA to the president would deliver on his promises.
