It was a colorful event at Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti when the Faculty of Education organized a send off ceremony for nine ( 9) academics as they bowed out of the service of the University.
The senior colleagues who had reached the mandatory age of retirement were: Professor Isaac Akindutire, Prof. Joel Adegun, Prof. Akin Ogunlade, Prof. Theresa Owuamanan, Prof. Emmanuel Kolawole, Prof. Dele Tenibiaje, Prof. James Oluwatayo, Prof. (Mrs) F.O Olaleye and Dr. Johnson Olanipekun.
Speaking at the retirement ceremony, the Acting Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Remi Famiwole thanked the retired academics for spending most of their youthful age and strength to serve the University and the Faculty of Education meritoriously. He advised them to enjoy their retirement and seek more rewarding ways to achieve a sense of purpose for themselves with a view to feeling happier in life after retirement.
The Dean explained further that the send off was an opportunity for those who are still in service to be motivated towards improving their services to the University so that they too would be celebrated after retirement.
The Vice Chancellor, Ekiti State University, Professor Edward Olanipekun, who was represented at the ceremony by the Provost, College of Medicine, Professor Joseph Bamidele, congratulated the retirees for the privilege and grace to complete a successful career in the university.
He applauded the Faculty for organizing such a befiting ceremony for the senior academics of the faculty.
He urged the retirees never to be tired of contributing to the body of knowledge for the sake of posterity.
The Vice Chancellor asked them to feel free to give suggestions and advice on how to improve the university now that they have the opportunity to see the institution from the outside and wished them well on behalf of the University.
Earlier, a project exhibition where all departments in the faculty displayed their projects was organized to complement the ceremony. It featured several groundbreaking designs, projects, instructional materials produced and patented by students of the Faculty.
Among the exhibits were motorized mower, (EKSU MOWER), road safety signs, solar yam pounding machine, aquarium, budded oranges, potted flowers, folded tables, conference tables/chairs, steel pot (ikoko onirin), hundreds of instructional materials, among others.
Students’ exhibits were assessed by both Exhibition and Quality Assurance Committees where the Department of Vocational/Technical Education came first. The second position went to the Department of Arts and Language Education. The Department of Science Education clinched the third position.
