Sani Abacha’s son emerges PDP guber candidate

The son of former head of state, late Sani Abacha has emerged as governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 general election in Kano State.

Muhammad Abacha polled 736 votes to defeat his closest rival, Jafar Sani-Bello, who scored 710 votes in the primary election on Wednesday.

Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Hajiya Amina Garba, declared Abacha as the winner of the primaries having scored 736 votes.

Chairman the Electoral Committee, Mohammed Jamu, said the primaries were legally conducted with validly-elected delegates and supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Police and State Security Service operatives.

Meanwhile, former Secretary to Sokoto State Government (SSG) Sa’idu Umar has emerged the flag-bearer of the PDP for the governorship election in the state polling 695 votes of the total 755 delegates.

This was the result of the primary election, supervised by Dr Tom Zakari from the party’s national headquarters, at the International Conference Centre, Kasarawa in Sokoto state.

Speaking after the exercise Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal assured that he would work assiduously in order to ensure that the party wins all the seats in the forthcoming general election in 2023.

Other governorship aspirants who ceded their interests for Umar, include former Deputy Governor and Minister of Water Resources, Mukhtar Shagari and the current PDP chairman, Bello Aliyu Goronyo.

Former Commissioner for Environment, Sagir Bafarawa who was also a contender for the coveted seat, will be the running mate of the PDP candidate for the state gubernatorial election.

In the same vein, the Deputy Governor, Manir Muhammad Dan Iya, also a contender, will contest for the Sokoto East Senatorial seat.
