RRS Officers Assault Lawyer In Ekiti.

Some Officers of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, Ekiti State Police Command on Wednesday allegedly assaulted a Lawyer in Ado-Ekiti, Barrister Temitope Omotayo.

It was gathered that the victim was arrested in front of his office at No 8, Dallimore Street, Ado Ekiti on the allegation that he did a video recording of the officers packing the properties in a shop close to his office.

Speaking with newsmen, Barrister Omotayo alleged that after his arrest, he was taken to the RRS office where he was harassed and beaten before being taken to the cell where he was detained for about 2 hours.

According to the Lawyer who is a former governorship candidate, the suspects in the cell were further instructed to assault him while he was with them.

He noted that it took the intervention of the leadership of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA in the state to secure his release and the return of his mobile phone to him.

The legal practitioner said video recording of such occurrence was not an offence according to the Nigerian law.

“In abroad, when police is going to such operation, they take cameras along”.

Barrister Omotayo however called on the Ekiti State police command to fish out the concerned officers and bring them to justice, adding that legal action would be taken against them.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu promised to get back to us, but as at the time of this report, he has not given any feedback.
