Residents Lament Poor Handling Of Road Rehabilitation

Some residents of Erio Ekiti have sent a save our soul message to the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA on the poor handling of the rehabilitation of the road linking the town with neighbouring communities.

The residents who protested against the shoddy job being done on the 15 kilometre road, urged FERMA to order the contractor to correct the noticeable errors on the road to ensure its durability.

The residents including the Elemikan of Erio, Chief Timothy Ojo and the Eruku, Chief Lawal Anafi expressed displeasure over the current condition of the road which has cut off the community from the state.

In an interview, Mr. Akanni Akinjobi who is a farmer noted that the community was an agrarian area, the famers need motorable road to transport their farm produce to where they would be sold.

Also some market women including Mrs Biola Fadipe and Eunice Dada lamented that all markets in the town were no longer functioning due to poor road network with a passionate appeal to FERMA to compel the contractor to comply with the required standard.

On his part, the National President of Erio Ekiti Development Association, Elder Akin Adeniji accused the contractor of using substandard materials for the construction of the culverts and drainages on the road.

Elder Adeniji who explained that the road which join Ekiti with three other states should be perfectly fixed to avoid incessant collapse described the situation as pathetic and unfortunate.

The Community Leaders appealed to the authorities to prevail on those concerned to urgently do the needful to save the community from needless suffering.

It was however the consensus of the residents of Erio-Ekiti that the federal government, through FERMA should allow them to enjoy good road network as one of the basic necessities of life.
