RESIDENTS LAMENT INCESSANT ACCIDENT ON ADO-IWOROKO ROAD

Some residents have decried a series of tragic accidents on the Ado-Iworoko road, blaming the incidents on poorly managed road safety measures and excessive speeding.

The latest incident was a serious accident near the abattoir along the same road, where a car, driven by a suspected “Yahoo boy” at high speed, lost control and flipped multiple times before crashing into a roadside shop, leaving several people injured.

Observers on the scene attributed the crash to the driver’s excessive speed and called on the government to enforce stricter measures to curb overspeeding, which has been a persistent issue on the road.

Also, an elderly man reportedly lost his life on Wednesday near Àdéhùn, Ado Ekiti in another accident allegedly caused by the partial blockage of the road by security checkpoints.

Eyewitnesses, including Mr Joshua Ogundele and Mr Sodiq Raheem, told Progress FM that the victim was hit while trying to cross the road by a vehicle after the driver, confused by the barricade, veered into the opposite lane, mistaking the barrier as part of a road diversion.

Mr Ogundele and Mr Raheem, however, emphasized the need for motorists navigating one-way diversions to reduce their speed and use their horns frequently to alert pedestrians, stressing that such precautions could prevent similar tragedies.

Another unfortunate event was a Hilux vehicle which ran into a faulty trailer on the road at the Aayemi garage area on Thursday, with witnesses again pointing to excessive speed as the cause of the accident.
