Political leaders and the government at all levels have been advised to rescue Nigeria from poverty and insecurity that has bedeviled the country.
National President of Nigeria Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies, NATAIS, Prof. Musa Abdu-Raheem made the call during the National Executive Committee meeting of the association held at the Faculty of Arts, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.
Professor Abdu-Raheem, who explained that the country could only witness require socio economic development, in a peaceful atmosphere.
On the previous election across the country, the NATAIS National President commended the efforts and innovations introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, security outfits, media professionals, politicians, the electorate, civil societies, the international community, local and foreign observers for their contributions to ensure peace before, during and after the elections.
The Don therefore urged members of NATAIS to give back to the Association in appreciation of the countless blessings of Allah, noting that such would go a long way to accelerate it development.
His words: “Work is progressing on ensuring that the journal of the Association is indexed and is online. This is to enhance its visibility and patronage. The Editorial Board is still accepting contributions for the forthcoming edition
“Members owe it a duty to regularly visit the Association’s website to be updated on its activities. After all, that is the gateway to the Association with the international community.
“We are supposed to send congratulatory messages to new Governors and others who have won elections into the Legislature at the State and Federal levels. A letter has been written to the President-Elect. We have not been able to visit him because of his tight schedule.
“We also owe them the responsibility of advising, supporting and praying for them. We thank Allah for the success of the elections and pray for the peaceful resolution of issues emanating from them, including the gubernatorial election in Adamawa State.”
Also, Ekiti State Chairman of NATAIS, Dr Tajudeen Faleemu who commended the state governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji and Vice-Chancellor of EKSU, Prof. Edward Olanipekun for the success recorded during the programme said the association had witnessed remarkable achievements in the past few months.
In their submissions, the secretary to Ekiti State government, Dr Habitat Adubiaro and the President Ekiti State Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Hammed Bakare urged Islamic teachers to continue to use their platform to peace and unity and welcomed all participants across the country to Ekiti State.
At the programme which was attended by members NATAIS books were presented to the SSG, Dr Habitat Adubiaro and Alhaji Hammed Bakare as sign of recognition.
