Qarta World Cup 2022: Nigeria misses Out

Nigeria will not be at the 2022 World Cup later in the year in Qarta, following a 1-1 draw with Ghana on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles failed to defeat the Black Stars in Kumasi, as they were only able to draw 0-0.

In the reverse leg played at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja, the visitors took the lead through Thomas Partey.

The Arsenal midfielder saw his long range effort squirm under Francis Uzoho to give Ghana the lead.

However, Nigeria drew level, after VAR awarded a penalty for a foul on Ademola Lookman. Captain William Troost-Ekong stepped up to make it 1-1.

Also victor James Osimhen’s goal in the first half of the encounter was cancelled as a result of off side after consulting VAR.

There were no goals in the second half and the Black Stars qualified on away goals

Ghana qualified on away goal rule.

This year’s world cup in Qarta will commence on the 21st of November and end on the 18th of December.
