Thirty indigenes of Odo- owa, Ejiyan, Owatedo and Ipoti Ekiti in Ijero Local Government area of Ekiti State who are students at various higher institutions in Nigeria have received cheques of forty thousand naira each as beneficiaries of Late Madam Abigail Oke Ajibola Memorial Scholarship Scheme.
During the presentation of the cheques at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ipoti Ekiti, the founder of the scheme, Professor Segun Ajibola said the scholarship was to immortalize his late mother who worked hard so he could be successful in life.
“My mother indulged in several menial jobs to cater for me because there was no help from anyone, she gave all to see me become a child she could be proud of” he said.
Professor Ajibola explained that he went through a lot before attaining greatness in life hence he was spurred to extend helping hands to younger ones to support their educational careers.
The Philanthropist who pointed out that the scheme started four years ago charged the beneficiaries to always persevere, embrace hardwork and be focused in order to make it in life.
“The way to the top is not rosy, it takes people with determination, discipline seriousness to scale through. If I had allowed my challenges then to derail me I won’t be here to do this today, so you must fight to the be successful” Professor Ajibola challenged.
In a separate remark, the Obalaaye of Ejiyan Ekiti, Oba Adekunle Adepoju represented by Chief Adepoju Ajibare and the Chairman on the occasion, Mr Owoyomi Omotosho described Professor Ajibola as a man who is committed to imparting on lives positively and urged others to emulate him.
Earlier in his exhortation, Rev J. A Adeleke of First Baptist Church, Epe Ekiti enjoined the students to remain persevere, focused, disciplined and godly in all their ways and cooperate with their parents as they strive to work towards the attainment of their dreams in life.
In an interview, some of the beneficiaries including Tofunmi Agbeleye and Ebenezer Adeola appreciated the gesture describing it as a career saver.
