The leadership of Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) has raised an alarm, calling the attention of the government to the lingering crisis in the oil and gas industry as the persistence of the scarcity and high costs of diesel and petrol may have dire consequences on the broadcast sector of the media industry.
This was contained in the New Year message of the Ekiti State Council of the Media Workers Union signed by the Chairman, Com. Jasper Taiwo Falae and the Secretary, Com. Ayodele Ogunmilade.
Com. Jasper Falae lamented the seemingly unending scarcity of the products which has forced some of the broadcast stations in Ekiti State and across the country to reduce hours of broadcast to less than ten hours. If this trend continues, “I am afraid of the future of our members” he said.
He hereby called on governments at all levels to speedily take decisive steps at resolving the crisis as the media industry is too critical to the existence of a Nation, especially as we head into a vital general election.
While calling on all media workers and the entire citizens of Ekiti State to support the Government of Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji in the quest of building an economically prosperous and secured Ekiti State, RATTAWU used the opportunity to advise the media workers across all media houses to steer clear of partisan politics as the success of the general elections may depend largely on the quality of information dished out by the media establishments.
In his words, the Chairman of RATTAWU Com. Jasper Falae said “dear comrades, let us join hands with all other stakeholders to make the forthcoming General Elections in the state a reference point as a truly free, fair and transparent election in Nigeria”.
The Union wishes all its members a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
