As part of preparations for the conduct of the 2023 general election, political parties taking part in the coming polls in Ekiti state have signed peace accord.
At the event held at INEC Office, Ado-Ekiti, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, Professor Ayobami Salami said the signing of the peace Accord was to ensure that the political parties and their candidates operate in a peaceful manner.
Professor Salami noted that the Commission is intensifying preparations to ensure smooth conduct of the elections, such as training of Electoral Officials and regular sensitization of electorates.
He appreciated stakeholders in the electoral process in the state for their cooperation so far, saying out of over nine hundred thousand registered voters in the state, over seven hundred thousand voters collected their PVCs.
Professor Salami explained that non sensitive materials have been distributed to all local governments in the state, while the sensitive ones were still at CBN.
In their remarks, the Representative of the APC in Ekiti state, Mr. Femi Bamisile and the Caretaker Chairman of PDP, Mr. Sadique Obanoyen expressed confidence in the ability of INEC to conduct credible polls.
The signing of the peace accord was attended by Political Stakeholders including Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Adeola Ajakaye, Security agencies, State Director of NOA, Mrs Olawumi Famuyiwa, NUJ Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Ojomoyela, NAWOJ Chairperson, Mrs Fatima Bello and civil society organizations.
