The Organised Labour may soon go on industrial action if Federal Government fail to resume payment of Thirty-five thousand Naira Wage award to its workers.
Deputy President of Trade Union Congress TUC, Tommy Etim stated this during a chat with newsmen in Abuja.
Mr Etim explained that the Organised Labour had already called government’s attention to the fact that it has paid only for September, but no explanation had been offered.
He said if by the end of December 2023, no further payment of wage award has been made, the NEC of the Organised Labour would have to meet and take a position on the matter.
On the issue of new minimum wage being planned to take effect next year, the labour leader said both the Federal and state governments should be prepared to increase the wage from the current #30,000 per month.
According to the Bugdet Office, the analysis of the 2024 appropriation budget indicated that Federal government has budgeted One Trillion Naira for Minimum Wage adjustments, promotion arrears and severance benefits for civil servants in Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
The Organised Labour, through several recent press releases have insisted that a new Minimum Wage will be based on the present socio-economic realities.
