…Promises More Development For School.
Members of the Old Students Association of Methodist Comprehensive High School, Aaye-Ekiti in Ido/Osi local government have promised to support government in repositioning facilities in the school.
President of the Old Students Association, Professor Moses Ajewole made the promise while addressing a news conference, as part of activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Methodist Comprehensive High School, Aaye-Ekiti.
Professor Ajewole said they had been contributing towards restoring the school to its prime, calling for financial support from well to do individuals to achieve the planned objective.
He explained that the Alumni had carried out many development projects in the school, such as renovation of administrative block, construction of toilets, 250 customised exercise books, payment of registration fee for final year examination, donation of knapsack spraying pumps and borehole, among others.
“We have extended hands of fellowship to some of our needy and bereaved members. We supported the families of some of our departed Teachers and mentors during their funeral programmes”.
“The MCHSOSA have funded two projects for commissioning at the 50th anniversary which include 325 metres long fence and an ultra modern school gate”.
Professor Ajewole said the Alumni had also lined up fund raising activities in the sum of two hundred and fifty million naira for the rehabilitation of four buildings that are in total state of dilapidation in the school.
He expressed happiness over increase in the enrollment of students, which now stands at 326, hoping for improvement in this regard.
Th President of MCHSOSA appreciated the immediate past Governor of Ekiti state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for kick-starting his school renovation project in Methodist School Aaye, while calling on Governor Biodun Oyebanji not to forget the school in terms of development.
Other programmes lined up for the anniversary of the school, according to Professor Ajewole include devotional service, while the grand finale will take place on Saturday during which some projects will be commissioned.
“The 50th Anniversary will not be limited to commissioning of projects alone, we will appreciate our former Principals, there will be an endowment of prizes by Dr. Andrew Newton for best students in English and Yoruba languages”.
“Awards will also be presented to individuals for their outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the school”.
The Old Students of Methodist Comprehensive High School Aaye-Ekiti however called for reintroduction of boarding system in the school.
“To achieve this we have planned to renovate the dilapidated orange and pink house hostels as take off facilities for boarding house students”.
Professor Ajewole said necessary steps would be taken to ensure that the reintroduction of the boarding system is supported and approved by the state government.
Speaking on this, the Senior Prefect Girl of 1978 set of the school, Mrs Bosede Mordi said boarding system promotes quality education and moral standard among students.
“The experience of boarding house students can not be compared to their colleagues running day system, if you are in boarding house, there is a kind of academic competition among students, hence promoting reading culture”.
“Boarding house thought me how to be hardworking, because we were exposed to different kind of works, we learnt how to farm right from here in the school, all these remodeled me and its helping me till today”.
Mrs. Mordi however urged government to take the issue of boarding system serious in order to promote quality education in the country.
Methodist Comprehensive High School Aaye-Ekiti which was established in January 1972 admitted the first set of students in September same year and has produced worthy leaders flourishing in various field of human endeavours.
