The National Youths Service Corps, NYSC says it will embark on free medical service for rural dwellers in Ekiti state.
The Ekiti state Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Mary Chikezie stated this at the Permanent Orientation Camp Ise/Orun-Emure Ekiti during the carnival and a programme to mark the 48th anniversary of the creation of the Scheme in Nigeria.
Mrs. Chikezie said it was one of the mandates of the corps to contribute to community growth, part of which is giving free medical services to the less privileged.
She noted that the scheme played key roles when the covid-19 pandemic was ravaging the world last year through provision of nose masks, sanitizers and other preventive equipments
Speaking on the journey of the Corps since 1973, the Coordinator pointed out that the importance of NYSC to nation’s building could not be over emphasized, as tremendous successes had been recorded so far.
“The scheme has provided job opportunities for Corps Members, many of the Ex Corps Members have succeeded in states where they served. Many marriages have been established through the Corps, I’m a living example of this because I met my husband during my service year”.
Mrs. Chikezie added that NYSC would not deviate from its mandates, saying more achievements would be recorded in the future.
“If NYSC is thrown away, a lot of opportunities will go with it. Lose NYSC and the Nation will regret it”. Chikezie said.
During a discussion programme, some of 2021 Batch A stream two Corps Members on the camp said NYSC had impacted positively on national unity, community growth and promotion of entrepreneurial skills among others.
The Corps Members embarked on a unity walk round the camp and lighting of anniversary light to demonstrate the oneness of Nigeria as part of the key mandates of the scheme as well as cultural display.
