The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ekiti State, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, today intercepted a vehicle being used to sell bread, but bearing a sticker belonging to the union. The vehicle, Mazda 626 was stopped by the NUJ Chairman in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
Comrade Babatuyi made this known on the union’s official platform.
He said, Upon inquiry, the driver of the vehicle revealed that he was using the vehicle for his bread business, but claimed to have purchased it from a journalist who had not removed the sticker at the time of the sale.
The driver however pleaded with the NUJ Chairman to show mercy, explaining that he was unaware that the sticker was still on the vehicle.
Moved by the driver’s plea, Comrade Babatuyu removed the sticker from the vehicle and allowed the driver to go, warning him to be more careful in the future.
The Chairman therefore call on journalists in the state to ensure that union stickers and other identifying marks are removed from vehicles when they are sold or transferred to new owners.
The Ekiti State NUJ has been actively engaged in promoting ethical journalism and responsible behavior among its members, and this incident is seen as a positive example of the union’s efforts to maintain high standards in the profession.
