Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, has cautioned parents to be wary of child traffickers.
State Commandant of the Corps, Ahmad Gandi made the call while parading a child trafficker in Lokoja.
Commandant Gandi said the call became imperative in view of the increasing activities of child traffickers, under the guise of assisting parents to get a better life for their children.
He said the child trafficker, Matthew Joseph from Kaduna State was arrested based on intelligence, and discovered to have trafficked twenty five underaged children to Lokoja under the pretence of getting them a better future.
According to him, all the foster parents of the children were also investigated and profiled, while the alleged trafficker is to be prosecuted accordingly.
The State Commandant appealed to the public to continue to give useful information to the Command on activities of criminals and criminally-minded individuals.
In a remark, representative of the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Ameen Hajarat said upon conclusion of investigation, the children would be returned to Kaduna State to be united with thier parents.
In an interview, the alleged trafficker, Matthew Joseph admitted to the crime but claimed he did it to save the children from the incessant attacks on some communities in Kaduna State with the hope of giving the children a better life and future.
