Residents of Ekiti State have been advised to prepare adequately for impending flooding that may likely occur later this year.
Acting Director, National Orientation Agency in Ekiti State, Mr Rotimi Omotoso gave the advice in Ado Ekiti during his inaugural meeting with Chief Orientation Mobilisation Officer in all council areas.
He appealed to the Agency’s mobilisation officers in council areas to Intensity campaign most especially those living in erosion prone areas to vacate in order to avert negative effect of the Imminent flooding.
Mr omotoso said that dumping of refuse on drainages and construction of building on water ways could endanger human life and lead to destruction of property.
He therefore sought the cooperation of the member of staff with new leadership of the Agency towards ensuring strategies for optimal performance.
Some of the mobilisation officers of the Agency expressed their readiness to hold meetings with relevant agency, groups, and individuals towards mitigating the effects of flooding.
They added that prevention of flooding became imperative as the current socio economic situation of Nigeria would affect governments spending on managing the aftermath of such disaster.
The Nigeria meteorological Agency had predicted the possibility of heavy rainfall later this year in the country which might result in flooding in twenty eight States including Ekiti.
