- 4th Nigerian death so far….
A Nigerian Pilgrim at the on-going Hajj in Saudi Arabia, Hajia Hawawu has died in Madina.
Hajia Hawawu, who hailed from Kwara State, was reported to have committed suicide by jumping from the rooftop of her apartment.
Executive Secretary of Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Board, Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdukabir confirmed the sad development in a statement.
Alhaji Abdulkabir said investigation by the Saudi Arabia authorities also confirmed that another pilgrim, Saliu Mohammed, died in an hospital after suddenly falling ill.
On behalf of the State Muslim Pilgrims Board, Alhaji Abdulkabir expressed regret over the death of the two Pilgrims and commiserate with their families.
Meanwhile, two pilgrims from Kebbi State had earlier died in Saudi Arabia.
A woman, simply identified as “Alako” died on May 25 while another one, Suleman died from illness on May 26.
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased as well as the Kwara and Kebbi States Pilgrims Welfare Boards.
