NGO advocates stiffer penalties for perpetrators of GBV.

A non Governmental Organization, Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme ( ECEWS) has advocated improved punitive measure towards checking the tide of violence against women and girls in Ekiti State and beyond.

The Director of the Non Governmental organization, Dr Emmanuel Fatusi announced this at this year’s flagg off of 16 days of Activism against Gender Based Violence in Ekiti State.

Dr Fatusi explained that stiffer penalties would caution most of the people in the act and reduce the tendencies of indulgence in all forms of violence against women and girl child.

He itemized some of this violence to Include, early childhood marriages, child labour, Hawking of goods, sexual assaults, female Genital mutilation among many others.

Dr Fatusi also advised people not to cover up cases of rape most especially in their domains but speak up to ensure Justice for victims, rehabilitation and protection from being stigmatised.

The NGO Director also gave assuarace that Sustenable efforts have been made by the state government to empower the victims of GBV so as to make them self reliant.

Earlier, Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji had said that there is no going back on government policies in the fight against Gender Based Violence.

Represented by the Gender Based Violence programme assistance officer, Miss precious Olofinyoku, the Governor’s wife said machineries were in motion to put a stop to the manace.

The programme was witnessed by National Association of Women Journalist, International federation of Women lawyers, Security operatives and other relevant stakeholders.
