News Flash: Direct Culture Towards Revenue Generation, Gov. Fayemi Charges NIFEST

It is important to reawake the consciousness of people towards harnessing the potentials in Arts, Culture and tourism to bring about economic revival across the regions in Nigeria.

This formed parts of the submissions of the Director General, National Council of Arts and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe at the Fifty second Technological Meeting of the Chief Executives of Culture in preparation for the NAFEST 2021, held in Ado Ekiti.

Otunba Runsewe who pointed that in 1970 after the civil war, leaders came together and resolved to use culture and sports as a tool to unite the people irrespective of colour, observed that Nigerian culture was not being recognized as it use to be in the past.

Otunba Runsewe charged the people to have a change of attitude towards their culture.

The Director General, National Council of Arts and Culture who expressed joy over the performance of Ekiti culture group, promised to showcase the performance to the whole world.

Declaring the forum Open, the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi said Nigerian needed to appreciate the dynamic nature of culture and urge NAFEST to focus on how to direct cultural activities towards revenue generation.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, Dr Fayemi explained that his administration strongly belief in the cultural capacity to engender social and political re-orientation of the populace to ease Government of the weights of social burdens.

He said that Government would continue to encouraging creativity in the tourism sector in order to ensure meaningful development at the grassroots.

Earlier, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Professor Ojo Bakare said that Ekiti has all it takes to host people across the world in terms of tourism and culture.

Professor Bakare appreciated Governor Fayemi for giving them the platform to showcase Ekiti tourism, culture and performance to Nigerians and world at large.
