The Non-academic staff Union of Educational and Associated institution NASU has appealed to the federal government to include its members in the proposed special salary package and other incentives approved for teachers in the public basic and post primary Schools in Nigeria.
The Members led by it’s chairman Mr Ade-Adeniyi made the appeal in Ado Ekiti during a peaceful protest to Governor Kayode Fayemi to register their grievances and submit letter of protest..
Members of NASU which comprises the non teaching personal and supporting staff in schools and colleges rendered different solidarity songs to press home their demands.
The protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as NASU members deserve better incentives, NASU rejects discriminatory policy among others.
Addressing the members the NASU chairman in ekiti mr Ade Adeniyi explained that president Muhammadu Buhari in October last year approved enhanced salary package for teachers and members of NASU were excluded from the arrangements.
He said that the federal government should also consider NASU in the 65years retirement age and 40 years of service as the protest which was Nationwide would last for three days.
The NLC chairman Mr Kolapo who handed over the requests of NASU to officials of the state government also appealed to Governor Fayemi to prevail on federal government to address the discriminatory policy in the school system.
In a response Governor Fayemi commended the union for the peaceful conduct of the protest and promised to deliver their messages to the appropriate quarters for prompt response.
The governor through the head of service Mrs peju Babafemi described NASU as key stakeholder in the education sector, and advise them to always embrace dialogue while pressing home their demands.
