Leadership of the National Association of Nigeria Students NANS have been charged to rebrand its image by sincerely focusing on issues that strengthens and develops the education sector rather than self-enriching ventures.
The ekiti state governor Dr.Kayode Fayemi gave the charge in ado ekiti yesterday evening while receiving the new executives of the NANS led by the president-elect Mr sunday Ashefon .
He urged the NANS president to reflect the federal character and uphold unity in relating with his members.
Dr.Fayemi however,assured ther association that the Nigerian Governors Forum will support by
Working hard towards the accomplishment of their demands.
Dr.Fayemi advised that the association should setup an empowered and informed back-up mechanism so that their agitations will be based on verifiable facts.
He also implored the leaders of the association to always embrace negotiations when matters arise.
He said that negotiations are on-going with the leadership of Accademic Staff Union of Universities ASSU to end their strike as well as explained that their inclusion in the agenda setting of the education sector and security matters in the interest of the all Nigeria students across board will be looked into.
The NANS president-elect Sunday Asefon in his speech commended the state governor and fellow members for their support which saw to his emergence as the president.
He however, on behalf of the association demanded for an end to the ASSU strike with a threat to shutdown all private tertiary institutions if it lingers.
Other demands included inclusion in the budget preparation of the education sector and security issues on campuses.
He later handed a letter of appreciation to the governor.
