Minister Proffers Solutions To Spread of Communicable Diseases

There is the need to modify the pattern of setting up markets, erection of buildings, regional planning and transportation modes in Nigeria.

This formed part of the submissions of the Minister of Interior, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola while delivering the third annual lecture of the Faculty of Arts, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.

The Minister said the current pattern of markets, buildings, regional planning and mode of transportation in which people are too close to one another encourage easy transmission of communicable diseases such as covid-19.

Mr. Aregbesola therefore stressed the need for stakeholders to come up with modern plan where physical distancing could be maintained in order to check the spread of diseases on the country.

He noted that the effects of covid-19 on the economy and security were enormous, urging Nigerians to take the vaccine and always practice all non pharmaceutical measures to prevent the transmission of the virus.

In his welcome address, the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Professor Musa Abduraheem said the topic of the lecture “Covid-19; economy and security” was chosen to fashion out ways of addressing the the challenges posed by the virus.

Professor Abduraheem appreciated the Management of the institution and those who contributed to the success of the lecture.

The Vice Chancellor of EKSU, Professor Edward Olanipekun enjoined the citizens of the country to continue to observe the established protocols to control the growth of tdevelopment

Professor Olanipekun expressed optimism that the lecture would have great impact on the participants and the nation at large.

In his remarks, the Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly who chaired the occasion commended the University for setting agenda for government and reawakening the consciousness of the people about developmental issues through the lecture.

After the lecture, the Minister of Interior, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola in company of the Special Adviser, political to the President, Senator Babafemi Ojudu visited Ekiti Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi where they discussed matters of national interest.
