A middle-aged woman is now in police net for allegedly stealing a baby girl at Nwawulu street, Okpoko community in Anambra state .
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed this in a statement in Awka, the state capital.
The statement explains that the 29 year old suspect, who hails from Isinkwo Abaomege in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, committed the crime at Nwawulu street, Okpoko, Onitsha.
According to the statement, preliminary information shows that the suspect is a neighbour to the parents of the child.
She initially denied any knowledge of the whereabouts of the 3-year old girl but upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to stealing the child with the intention of selling her.
The child has been recovered from the suspect and handed over to her parents.
The statement adds that further development will be communicated to the public as investigation is ongoing on the matter.
