A group, the League of Veteran Journalists, Ekiti state chapter has called on government to accord special recognition to practicing journalists in the country by prioritizing their welfare.
Chairman of the Veteran Journalists in Ekiti State, Prince Kayode Oni made the call when he led other members of the group on a courtesy visit to the management of Progress FM, Ado-Ekiti.
Prince Oni said journalists occupied vantage position in the society as they risk their lives in the process of discharging their duties, hence government should give them attractive salaries and entitlement.
He noted that the League was formed to contribute their quota to effective dissemination of information between the government and the governed.
While congratulating Progress FM on its eighteenth anniversary, the Chairman of the Veteran Journalists urged the station to build on its successes and called for the support of the station to actualise their programmes lined up for this year.
Responding, the General Manager,Progress FM Ado Ekiti, Mr. Dokun Ladele urged them to use their expertise to develop the journalism profession.
Mr Ladele however promised the support of the station to the body, especially in projecting their activities.
