A Non Governmental Organisation, Kids & Teens Resource Centre in partnership with First Electric Power and Automation Services Limited distributed Ninety (90) Multipurpose solar lanterns to vulnerable Students living with disability.
Performing the Ceremony at Akure high school, the Project Manager and Rural Electrification Leader of First Electric Power and Automation Services Limited, Mr Oluwagbenga Alo mentioned that as part of their Community Social Responsibility, they have decided to distribute a total of 180 multipurpose solar lanterns in four schools in Ondo state. The most vulnerable pupils/students in these schools have been selected and so far, 135 beneficiaries in Comprehensive High School Igbobini (Ese-odo), Ondo State School for the Deaf and Akure High School have been presented the Multipurpose solar lanterns to make reading easier, thus making it possible for them to improve academically.
In Akure High School and School for the Deaf, 90 solar lanterns were distributed to the special pupils and students of both schools.
Also speaking, the Executive Director Kids & Teens Resource Centre Mrs Folashade Bamigboye said that the intervention was to contribute to the improvement of educational standards of special and vulnerable children while also reducing the burden of these vulnerable population of students at Akure High School.
She said students living with disabilities, the hearing impaired faced alot of challenges and the poor supply of electricity also compounded the issues that make reading difficult for them.
Mrs Bamigboye maintained that the project would help the beneficiaries overcome electricity challenges; it will go a long way to ease their burden and improve their academic performance if well utilized.
Earlier the Principal of the school, Mrs Iyabode Aladewolu commended the donor (First Electric, AllOn and USADF) for their laudable project to impact the lives of the students living with disabilities.
Mrs Aladewolu said that the school would continue to improve on the skills of learners to make their academic performance encouraging.
The principal commended the efforts of Ondo state Government for creating a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning for the students of the school.
Mr ALO took the pupils through a training session on how to properly use the lanterns, preserving the solar panel and charging it well for durability.
