As the world commemorate International Women’s Day 2023, Kids & Teens Resource Centre in collaboration with Women Advocacy Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) funded by FORD Foundation has advocated the use of technology in reporting Gender Based Violence cases in Bamikemo and Ologundudu communities in Ile-Oluji Oke-Igbo Local Government Area of Ondo State
The Executive Director of Kids & Teens Resource Centre, Mrs Folashade Bamigboye educated the women and girls on their roles in community mobilization to end violence against women and girls.
Also, the program officer, Kids & Teens Resource Centre, Mrs. Praise Adeboboye who informed the community members of their roles in advocating against Gender Based Violence stressed the need for everyone to be involved .
She urged the community focal persons educated to visit churches, mosques and markets to further educate the people about GBV.
Members of the Community Response Team (CRT), Mrs Hamzat and Mrs Aleshinoye mentioned that some victims of GBV speak out while some don’t speak up because of the society perception about victims. Mrs Aleshinoye appreciated the fact technology can provide the platform for reporting of cases while also protecting the victims.
The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer from Kids & Teens Resource Centre, Janet Ogabo informed the residents that Digital technology makes it easy to stay in touch with friends, family, and even work remotely, even if you are in another part of the world. Hence she charges the young girls to make good use of their smart phones to report cases and contribute to the fight to end violence against women and girls. She noted that the culture of silence only fuels GBV.
She said that with the help of apps, smart phones and social media people can report and get justice for any act of GBV perpetrated against them.
In her remarks, the Olori of Bamikemo Mrs. Abiola Kehinde, pledged to spread the message to other women leaders and to fight for the right of women and girls in the community.
The event ended with a community rally led by the Olori to create awareness of the value of women and kick against violence in the community.
