INEC Trains Staff Ahead Of Governorship Election In Ekiti.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says it will continue to use innovations that can help in the smooth conduct of elections in Nigeria.

The Chairman, Planning, Monitoring and Strategic Committee of INEC, Professor Rhoda Gumus stated this in Ado-Ekiti at the opening of a two-day workshop on election monitoring and support centre.

The Election Monitoring and Support Centre, put up by INEC in partnership with the European Centre for Electoral Support is an operational framework for monitoring electoral activities.

Declaring the workshop open, the Chairman, Planning, Monitoring and Strategic Committee of INEC, Professor Rhoda Gumus said monitoring and tracking of electoral activities using technology could not be over emphasised.

Professor Gumus noted that the centre would also provide opportunity for the commission to quickly resolve any issue that might arise before and during elections.

In his speech, the INEC National Commissioner supervising Ekiti State, Dr. Sam Olumekun explained that conducting election required rigorous planning, hence the need to prepare early, especially as the commission prepares for the governorship poll in the state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, Dr. Adeniran Tella said the workshop was to prepare the INEC staff in the state in readiness for the forthcoming election.

On his part, the Deputy Project Coordinator of the European Centre for Electoral Support, Mr. Manji Wilson promised the continued support of the international organization for the Electoral body to succeed in its activities.
